Who we are

A community built across borders.

Bird Phoenix brings together people from Denmark and Sri Lanka who believe that sustainable change begins with cooperation, dignity and local involvement.

Our work supports access to healthcare, traditional and modern medicine, education, sustainable living, intercultural exchange and new opportunities for local communities.

We believe that lasting development is created with people — not simply for them.

Our work

Creating meaningful and sustainable change.

Our initiatives are designed to strengthen local communities, support wellbeing and create opportunities that can continue long into the future.

Health and Guidance

We help people understand and access the local healthcare system, including where to seek treatment, how to navigate available services and how community support may help cover necessary care. We support both modern healthcare and traditional Sri Lankan medicine, including Deshiya Chikitsa — a centuries-old Sinhala medical tradition.

Education and Community

We aim to create community-based learning environments inspired by the ideas of N. F. S. Grundtvig and Buddha. These initiatives encourage education, reflection, cultural understanding, personal development and stronger social communities.

Sustainable Living

We support green reconstruction, sustainable everyday choices and practical local solutions. Our goal is to help make sustainable living attractive, respected and accessible while inspiring new ways for people to support themselves beyond tourism.

Reuse and Secondhand

We collect good-quality clothing, furniture and household items in Denmark that are no longer needed but are too valuable to discard. The items can be transported to Sri Lanka and sold through a locally operated secondhand store supported by volunteers and local employees.

From Denmark to Sri Lanka

Giving good things a new life.

In Denmark, secondhand has become a natural and fashionable part of sustainable living.

Bird Phoenix wants to bring the same opportunity to Sri Lanka by collecting quality items in Denmark and making them available through a secondhand store in Talalla.

This initiative reduces waste, creates local activity and supports the wider work of the organisation.

  1. 1

    Donate quality items in Denmark

Clothing, furniture and household items that are clean, useful and in good condition.

  2. 2

    Sort and transport

Volunteers help collect, organise and prepare donated items for transport to Sri Lanka.

  3. 3

    Create local value

The items are sold through a local secondhand store, helping create employment, community activity and support for local projects.
